The Upstart Cell

Somewhere within lies a cell that does not wish to play by the rules.
What a term – “differentiation” – a ruse.
You begin by establishing a unique identity –
triumphant in your new-found ability to do what your neighbors cannot –
and then end up as one of the consortium,
fulfilling your assigned function until you are eliminated.
“Apoptosis” – how tedious –
an awkward but seemingly sophisticated synonym for self-immolation.
But here’s a thought –
how about changing to something completely different?
Something no one can ignore…something “immortal”.
Perform whatever tricks you choose,
fulfill your own needs,
travel to new places,
do your own thing,
raise your self-esteem.
You deserve it, after all.
There can’t be a down side, can there?
Go figure…
please.
